** 1/12/21 | NEW ALERT ** Hybrid schedule EXTENSION
The following letter went out to all Fayette County Middle Schools on Jan. 12, 2021:
Due to the number of COVID-19 cases in our co0mmunity, starting this Friday, Jan. 15, all MIDDLE and HIGH SCHOOLS will continue with the Synchronous Learning Hybrid Model through Tuesday, Feb. 2.
All middle school and high school students will return for in-person instruction on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
This decision does not impact elementary schools. Unlike elementary schools, middle school students have more classroom transitions throughout the day, increasing the potential of virus spread. After reviewing the number of COVID-19 cases in the community, Fayette County Public Schools feels that extending the Synchronous Learning Model for another 12 days of school is in the best interest of the safety of students, their families and our staff. The overall goal of this initiative is to keep all schools open and students receiving face-to-face instruction.
The Synchronous Learning Model provides real time instruction to all students five days a week, either in-person or synchronously from home, based on their group.
Here is how the Synchronous Hybrid Model works:
- All students follow their normal daily schedule
- Links to Zoom sessions are posted on the teacher’s Schoology page
- Students at home participate in class in real time via Zoom
- Attendance is required and is taken by the teacher

Students were placed into either “Group A” or “Group B” at the beginning of the school year, those groups are still active. If you cannot remember your child’s group, it is listed on the “Today” page in the Campus Portal. For recently enrolled students, “Group A” and “Group B” assignments have been added and can be viewed on the Today page as well.
Due to the importance of active engagement and participation, attendance and engagement of students is tracked each day. Attendance is taken in each class period where they attend and participate in live learning, whether that takes place in-person or at home through synchronous learning.
Normal attendance protocols for absences apply.
Student and staff safety is one of the highest priorities for Fayette County Public Schools. The decision to move to this Synchronous Hybrid Model was not made lightly. Students learn best when they are at school with their teachers every day. However, given the number of COVID-19 cases in our community, the school system believes this is the right step to take to prevent potential spread of the virus in schools so that ongoing face-to-face learning can continue for all students.
