Peeples Dominates Perennial Math Tourney

Math teams from Peeples Elementary had a strong showing at the first annual Perennial Math Tournament held at the University of West Georgia with all teams and several members taking top placements.

Perennial Math is a problem-solving tournament for students in grades 3-8. The competition consists of two different events. The first event is an individual test that is 30 minutes long with 15 problems. The second event is 20 minutes long with 10 problems where students work in teams. Awards for first through third place are given in both the team and individual competition.

The Peeples third grade math team placed first out of 18 teams, the fourth grade team took third place out of 21 teams, and the fifth grade team came in second out of 18 teams. Team members include (third grade) Trevor Gapp, Henry Burnett, Andrew Schmidt, Carter Daniel, and CJ McKenna; (fourth grade) Anna Willis, Mason Stallings, Lucas Dee, Bailee Taylor, and Katie Rausch; (fifth grade) Matthew Little, Emily Stanek, Richard Wang, Jack Dombek, and Michael Lin.

Individual students also earned top three placements. They are Andrew Schmidt, third grade, first place; Trevor Gapp, third grade, second place; and Richard Wang, fifth grade, second place. There were a total of 93 students competing at the third grade level, and 88 students competing at the fifth grade level.

Coaches for the teams are teachers Lolly Martin, Noel Strain, Gail Frantz, and Tabatha Schwanbeck.
