Brothers Nico Huff, from Peachtree City Elementary, and Alex Huff, from J.C. Booth Middle, took first place for their age groups in the 2016 American Protégé International Vocal Competition in the Broadway category. They competed with students from all over the world including Russia, Ukraine, Ireland, Singapore, Taiwan, Puerto Rico, France, Canada, and the United States. They are the only first place winners from Georgia.

The brothers will perform at Carnegie Hall the weekend of December 16. Nico will sing “Electricity” from the musical “Billy Elliot,” and Alex will sing “A Friend Like Me” from “Aladdin.”

The American Protégé International Vocal Competition is designed for singers who like to challenge themselves in a very competitive environment. The competition is open to solo vocalists and vocal groups of all ages, nationalities and countries. Participants were required to submit a video recording for the audition.

Whitewater High School Band member Matthew Brown has been selected to the 2017 High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. Participation in the Honors Ensemble is limited to the highest-rated high school performers from around the world.

Matthew auditioned for the series earlier this year, and was accepted after a review by the Honors Selection Board. Acceptance to the elite group is a direct result of the talent, dedication and achievements demonstrated in his application. Matthew will perform on the euphonium, joining other musicians from the United States and a number of foreign countries for a special concert at Carnegie Hall in February.

The Honors Performance Series was created to showcase accomplished individual high school performers on an international level by allowing them to study under master conductors and perform in the celebrated venue, Carnegie Hall.
