Student Advances to State MathCounts Competition


A middle school student from J.C. Booth Middle will represent Fayette County at the 2017 Georgia MathCounts Competition after taking top honors at the MathCounts South-East Perimeter Chapter Competition.Student Advances to State MathCounts Competition

Irene Kwon, an eighth grader, was the 11th highest scorer in the region, and has been invited to compete against other top individuals in the state at the Georgia Institute of Technology on March 20. The top four individual competitors from the competition receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the national event, which takes place in May.

Teachers Judy Smith and Taylor Smoak are the MathCounts coaches at Booth.

MathCounts is a national program that provides middle school students the opportunity to compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers. The competition consists of four rounds that test accuracy, problem solving processes, critical thinking processes, teamwork, and speed.
