South Georgia School Thanks Students for Donations

When students and faculty at North Fayette Elementary heard about the devastation that students at Turner Elementary in Dougherty County suffered when a tornado hit their area on January 22, they went to work to collect needed items for them and their families. Fifth grade teacher and BETA Club advisor, Calisse Black, and school principal Oatha Mann organized a school-wide fundraiser and supply drive to help seven of the students who lost everything, and many others whose homes were damaged.

North Fayette’s students talked with Turner Elementary students via Skype to learn first hand about their experience and loss, and then went to work to help their South Georgia counterparts. They sent boxes of school supplies, clothes, food, household items, and monetary donations.

“I want to extend a special thanks to the students and staff at North Fayette Elementary for the support and love they have given to us. The students and staff at Turner Elementary School are forever grateful,” says Turner Elementary school counselor Cassandra Ransom.
