Fourth and Fifth Graders Show Off Math Skills at Annual County Competition


Fayette County Schools’ most outstanding fourth and fifth grade math students from all 14 elementary schools battled in the 2017 Fayette County Elementary Math Tournament, proving they know how to crunch numbers.Fourth and Fifth Graders Show Off Math Skills at Annual County Competition

The team of Henry Burnett, Carter Daniel, Andrew Schmidt, and Neave Bryant took Peeples Elementary to a first place victory in the fourth grade competition.

Likewise, the Kedron Elementary team of London Whilby, Aziaan Peerani, Rentaro Oka, and Eli Kilgore clinched first place in the fifth grade contest.

Peachtree City Elementary and Robert J. Burch Elementary took second place in the fourth and fifth grade competition, respectively. Peachtree City’s team consisted of Alexandria Thompson, Madison Marich, Thomas Lacy, and Hiro Koyama; Burch’s team included Matthew Earle, Kamyrn Wimbish, and Yosbani Vasallo.

Braelinn Elementary and Oak Grove Elementary took third place in the fourth and fifth grade competitions. The Braelinn team consisted of Evan Bartek, Nolan Siguenza, Chloe Fitzsimmons, and Cal Kennedy; Oak Grove’s team included Sunia Xiao, Carsen McEver, Ellen Ericson, and Sydney Gedeon.

The top three teams each received a trophy to take back to their school to celebrate their achievement. In addition, as the county’s fourth and fifth grade champions, Peeples Elementary and Kedron Elementary, will have their school names added to the plaque of champions that is displayed in the math classroom at the LaFayette Educational Center.
