School Nutrition Employee Wins Hero Award

A long-time school nutrition employee has been selected as a hero among her peers, and has become the second person to receive the annual Hero Award given by the Fayette County Public Schools School Nutrition Program.School Nutrition Employee Wins Hero Award

Charlotte Sisk of Sandy Creek High is the winner for the 2017-2018 school year. Sisk was surprised with the award on January 2 during an in-service training workshop for all of the county’s school nutrition employees.

Earlier this year, all school nutrition managers were invited to nominate one member of their staff for the Hero Award. They had to write a summary stating why the nominee deserved the award, describe how the person serves his or her school, and the number of years the employee has been with school nutrition.

Sisk has been employed with school system’s school nutrition department for 23 years, and has spent the entire time at Sandy Creek High. She was nominated by her manager, Maureen Harbin, who came to the school three years ago.

Sisk has seen a lot of managers come and go during her career, and Harbin points out that she was instrumental in helping her get acclimated to the job when she first started working at the school.

“I only had to ask Charlotte for the where, who, and what and she always had the answer,” Harbin says.

Harbin describes Sisk as being an exceptionally hard worker and trustworthy employee who she knows she can count on in a pinch.

“I feel so much more secure in the fact that when I am not there, I know that Charlotte will be able to figure out the solution if need be,” says Harbin.

Sisk is a forward thinker, and is always two steps ahead when the cafeteria needs to be decorated to reflect different seasons, holidays, or special events. Harbin says she is loved by both students and faculty at Sandy Creek High, and is a true school nutrition hero for both her longevity on the job, and her desire to help and serve others.
