Student Wins Metro Atlanta Water Essay Contest
A Fayette County sixth grader is among 14 middle school students from the metro Atlanta area selected as a winner in the Metro Water District Middle School Essay Contest.
Sanika Kumar, a student at J.C. Booth Middle, was selected as an essay contest winner from among over 1,200 essays submitted by middle school students in the 15-county metro area. She was also named one of two district-wide runners up. Sanika is a student in Dreeka Owens’ sixth grade science class.
The contest challenges students to think critically about the region’s water resources and raises awareness for conservation and preservation of water quality in metro Atlanta. Students were asked to write a 300-500 word essay explaining why water quantity (how much we have) and water quality (how clean the water is) are equally important.
Each winner received a $100 prize and was honored at a reception at the Georgia State Capitol.
