Top Honors Earned at State Technology Competition

Although it was their first trip to the Georgia Educational Student Technology Competition, students from J.C. Booth Middle and Oak Grove Elementary had five projects that took top honors in the areas of multimedia, robotics, audio production, programming, and animation.Top Honors Earned at State Technology Competition

Four of the winning projects were created by students at J.C. Booth Middle. Hannah Coleman and Shelby Brown took second place in multimedia applications, Marc Van Zyl and Jacob Gerson placed second in robotics, Sofi Fuenmayor-Diaz and Claire Lankdord secured second place in audio production, and Jack Lovejoy and Ben Utt placed third in project programming.

Fifth grader Ella Griswold from Oak Grove Elementary won second place in animation. She was the only elementary student from Fayette to place in the competition.

These students were among 1,200 third through 12th graders from throughout the state representing 900 projects that advanced to the competition after taking first place at regional competitions throughout Georgia. A total of 234 projects received first through third place honors. Fayette represented the West Georgia region and received almost half of the state honors that were earned by competitors from the region, which includes students who attend public, private or home schools in the counties of Carroll, Coweta, Fayette, Harris, Heard, Meriwether, and Troop, as well as the City of Carrollton .

The Georgia Educational Student Technology Competition is an annual event produced by the Georgia Educational Technology Consortium. The competition is open to all third through 12th grade students in Georgia. Students advance to the state competition after taking first place honors at their regional competitions.
