Applicants from 28 states across the country completed a comprehensive and highly competitive audition process which included a biographical essay, two recommendations, as well as an audition video.

More than a thousand students applied but only 106 participants were accepted into the program after being recognized by Carnegie Hall as the finest young orchestra players in the country—Zamore plays the clarinet.

Zamore and other young musicians will travel to Asia with well-known composer Michael Thompson for their sixth annual world tour debuting performances in Taipei, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, and Daejeon.

To prepare for the tour, members of the 2018 orchestra will partake in an intensive three-week training session in New York City where conductors from around the world will lead master music classes, chamber music readings, and other music essential seminars to help students sharpen their music skills. Young orchestra players will also have the opportunity to perform in the world-renowned Carnegie Hall for an annual concert.

The National Youth Orchestra of the United States is a youth orchestra organization created by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute that brings together top orchestra students from across the country to perform national and international concerts.
