Future Business Leaders Finish in State’s Top Ten, Three to Compete at National Conference

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter members at Sandy Creek High and Whitewater High schools are among the top 10 in the state in Sports and Marketing Entertainment Management, Graphic Design, and Computer Game and Simulation Programming following their performance at the State FBLA Leadership Conference. Sandy Creek High’s Meredith Raines and Amalie Rosales finished second in Graphic Design at the state conference and are headed to the FBLA National Leadership Conference this June in Baltimore, Maryland. Additionally, Akin Aremu took eighth place at the state conference in Sports and Entertainment Management, and is also heading to nationals after being selected as part of a “super team” where he will be grouped with other top test scorers throughout the nation.

Business education teacher Melanie Duncan is the FBLA advisor at Sandy Creek High.

Whitewater High’s Noah Greer, Nicky Akin and Josie Lipton secured a fifth place victory at the state conference in Computer Game and Simulation Programming. The students may be selected to participate on a “super team” at the national conference depending on the number of spots available in their competition event.

Career and technical education teacher Karine Ferdinandsen is the FBLA advisor at Whitewater High.

FBLA is a nonprofit education association that prepares students for careers in business and business-related fields.

The national awards program recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. Through state-based competitions at the spring State Leadership Conference, students compete in events testing their business knowledge and skills. Top state winners are eligible to compete for honors at the National Leadership Conference each summer.
