Students at Braelinn Elementary showed off their leadership skills during their first annual Leadership Day.Braelinn Elementary Hosts Its First Leadership Day

The entire program was student-led by these 16 fourth graders who are also Braelinn’s ambassadors: Wells Almand, James Bender, Alexa Berger, Anna Bleil, Zimri Cauble, Scarlett Daniel, Lily Gloriod, Katie Gutshall, Lucas Hamilton, Evey Isaacs, Addison Ransom, Lauren Stephens, Parker Williams, John Windham, Kylan Wright, and Sean Yoder.

Earlier this year Braelinn was one of eight schools in Georgia to earn the “Leader in Me Lighthouse School” designation after demonstrating their well-rounded leadership model that incorporates leadership and life skills that are critical to success in school and careers. What better to celebrate this award than by showing off those leadership skills to the community.

To kick off the program, invited guests were treated to special breakfast. Guests included several parents and active community members.

Guests were escorted to a student-led assembly to enjoy a skit performed by students highlighting what it means to be leader and how they use leadership skills daily.

In a special one-on-one session, students had the opportunity to share their leadership notebooks with guests, which showed their reading progress, individual goals, math skills, etc.

Students led guests on a tour of the school where they were able to visit various student clubs or “star squads.” There were over 40 student clubs and each one focused on a different subject area such as math, games, creative writing, calligraphy, to name a few.

To close out the program, there was a special question and answer session where visitors were able to ask the ambassadors questions about leadership.

Fayette County’s digital media specialist, Dr. Mike Fricke, asked “As leaders, can you tell me some ways our school system can improve interactive technology?” With excitement, students began to share their ideas.

Braelinn’s principal Wenonah Bell says, “I’m so proud of these students! This was an opportunity for all our students to share their leadership talents with others.”
