This past school year the Fayette County Public School System’s Transportation Department welcomed its first-ever school bus mechanic intern to the bus shop, and at the end of the school year, celebrated his work and accomplishments with a gift he will always remember.First Bus Shop Intern Gets Grand Send-Off

Michael Thompson, who graduated from Whitewater High in May, was presented with a miniature school bus with the numbers 1-2018 on it, with the number one representing Thompson as the bus shop’s first intern, and 2018 for his graduation year. The staff also gave him a card and graduation gift. He interned at the bus shop through the school system’s work study program.

Thompson will attend Southern Crescent Technical College in the fall to study auto mechanics. Although bus shop supervisor George Davis and his staff tried hard to convince Thompson to pursue diesel mechanics, Davis says he decided to stay with automobiles.

“I think he really enjoyed the fleet experience, and may change his mind later,” says Davis.

Whether Thompson stays with automobiles or decides later to work with diesel machinery, Davis says he knows he will be a success.

The bus shop will welcome its second intern from the work study program this coming school year.
