Sarah Park of McIntosh High and Edward Huang of Whitewater High were selected as members of the 2018-19 Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony (AYWS).

This comes after over 350 high school students from the metro-Atlanta area auditioned for the 99-member symphony.

AYWS is an honor ensemble for high school youth in the Atlanta metropolitan area, which provides a positive musical experience in an artistic environment for advanced instrumentalists in wind and percussion performance. The ensemble performs collegiate and professional original wind band literature composed over a wide span of stylistic compositional periods.

The AYWS performs four concerts annually throughout the metro area.

Additionally, Sandy Creek High’s Skyler Bugg has been selected as a member of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra (ASYO).

Bugg was among 300 middle and high school instrumentalists who auditioned for one of the 100 seats in the orchestra.

ASYO strives for national preeminence among youth orchestras, while cultivating the artistic growth and excellence of its members through enriching orchestral experiences and mentoring by Atlanta Symphony Orchestra musicians.

Each year, ASYO presents three concerts and members have exclusive invitations to participate in readings and master classes with the top artists in the instrumental music industry.

After a highly competitive audition process, Bria Rives (Bennett’s Mill Middle), Natali Vera Pimentel (Sandy Creek High), and Diane Kwon (J.C. Booth Middle) have been selected as members of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO).

MYSO is committed to developing the educational opportunities of Atlanta’s most talented young musicians by offering public performances, sectional coaching, solo performance opportunities, chamber music ensemble training, and scholarship awards for continuing music education.

The MYSO is made up of two ensembles. The symphony orchestra is focused on high school level musicians and nurtures the development of collegiate level musicianship. The philharmonic orchestra is dedicated to providing engaging opportunities for talented middle school musicians to develop the musical skills required to perform some of the greatest literature ever written.

Each ensemble performs three fully programmed concerts during the orchestra season.
