There is no slowing down for Fayette County’s FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) chapters after four members took top placements in the FCCLA Region 4 competition.
Fayette County High’s Zaria Frenelle placed first and Sandy Creek High’s Jerre’ Smith finished second in the FCCLA Creed Speaking and Interpretation category.
Sandy Creek students Josephine Martins placed first and Taylor Breeding placed second in the Impromptu Speaking category.
The skill demonstration events provide opportunities for members to demonstrate college and career ready skills in Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations.
FCCLA Creed Speaking & Interpretation recognizes first-year members through grade 9 for their ability to recite the FCCLA creed and interpret it within the context of their personal philosophy. This event provides an opportunity for members to gain self-confidence in public speaking while learning the values and philosophy expressed by the organization in which they hold membership.
Impromptu speaking recognizes participants for their ability to address a topic relating to FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences without prior preparation. The ability to express one's thoughts in an impromptu situation while maintaining poise, self-confidence, logical organization of point, and conversational speaking are important assets in family, career and community situations.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national career and technical student organization with the family as its central focus. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills necessary for life through character development, critical and creative thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
