Six members of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter at Starr’s Mill High earned top scores in their competitions and are advancing to the national level.
Abby Weaver and Sarah Karol won gold in the Environmental Ambassador event at the FCCLA State Leadership Conference in March, earning them a spot in the FCCLA National Leadership Conference taking place in Anaheim, California June 30-July 4. Additionally, the teams of Jenna Sulkowski and Anna Willoughby, and Paige Grisamore and Jaci Edwards, competing in the Chapter Design event and Digital Stories for Change event, respectively, placed in the top 10 in the nation for online Star Events and will advance to the national competition as well.
In addition to the students who are advancing to the national competition, Sandy Creek High FCCLA members also had a strong showing at the state competition. The team of Mariely Alvarez, Lauren Cook and Chelsea Davis earned silver in the Food Innovations event, the team of Tresea’ Borders, Kaniya Robinson and Claire Vaughn won bronze in the Culinary Arts event, and Mackenzie Craddock brought home bronze in the Knife Skills event.
Over 1,700 students competed at the state conference, which was held March 15-17 at the Sheraton Atlanta.
FCCLA is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through family and consumer science education.
