A Fayette County middle and high school student will help advise Georgia School Superintendent Richard Woods on educational issues as members of his 2019-2020 student advisory council. Two Students Selected for State Superintendent Advisory Council

Katie Rausch, an eighth grader at Rising Starr Middle, and Morgan Pettis, an 11th grader at Whitewater High, are among the 130 members of the council who were selected from a pool of more than 1,000 Georgia students who applied. Students were chosen based on the strength of their essay answers, which focused on their ideas for public education as well as their community service experience.

Throughout the school year, the students will meet with Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom and other education related issues, as well as serve as his ambassadors to their respective schools, and participate in service projects to benefit schools and students.
