Students enrolled in the Open Campus High School program are doing their part to help financially struggling families participate in Thanksgiving Day traditions.
Knowing that there are families in the community who need assistance this holiday season, the Open Campus Student Advisory Committee decided to sponsor a food drive to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Fayetteville.
In addition to collecting a variety of dried beans and canned foods, the students also gathered cleaning supplies and personal hygiene items that included paper towels, toilet paper, toothpaste, dishwashing liquid, and soap.
“Our students enjoyed giving back to others this holiday season,” says Dr. Margo Wimbish, dean of students.
The drive took place November 4-21.
The Open Campus High School program provides online and individualized course instruction. Enrollment is limited to students who have attended a Fayette County public high school, and who have been recommended for admission by their high school counselor and principal. All Open Campus teachers are certified and have taught previously in the Fayette County Public School System.
