Sharp minds mine for minerals

Peeples Elementary 3rd graders put their minds to the test, mining for minerals for a science project. 

Typically, the full Diamond Dell gem mining experience would come to the school as an in-house field trip, but pandemic restrictions led them to adapt. The supplies were sent to the school, and students got to work “mining” for minerals. The goal was to analyze rocks and minerals to classify them by their physical attributes like color, texture, luster, and hardness. 

Peeples Elementary teacher Heather Mullins said the kids were fans of the projects.
