Support Fayette’s Schools and Students by Driving a School Bus

College students, parents, retirees, and business owners can help support the county’s school system and its students while earning extra income by becoming a school bus driver.

School bus drivers serve as important role models for the children of our community. A school bus is an extension of the classroom, with drivers typically being the first point of contact students and parents have with the school system in the mornings and the last representatives to see them home in the evenings.

The Fayette County Public School System is in the process of expanding its pool of school bus drivers. No previous experience driving a bus or large vehicle is required. The school system provides training to candidates whose Motor Vehicle Report (MVR or driving history) and criminal background check turn up no problems that would prevent them from driving a school bus or working around children.

School bus drivers work 180 days from August to May, with summers off, while still earning year-round pay. The school bus fleet is new, and every bus is equipped with air conditioning.

All drivers start out earning $72 per day. Full-time drivers are eligible for health, dental, life, and long- and short-term insurance benefits, as well as sick leave time.

Anyone interested in becoming a school bus driver should apply online by visiting the school system’s website, www.fcboe.org. A link to the application is in the middle of the page under “District Announcements.”
