Sandy Creek hosts 9/11 remembrance

Though many of the participants were not even alive on the day, the Patriots of Sandy Creek know the importance of the events of September 11, 2001. On the 20th anniversary of the tragedy that took so many lives, the Patriots hosted a somber and touching remembrance, inviting local first responders and other members of the community to share in the ceremony.

Sandy Creek Air Force JROTC’s Unit Commander, Cadet Lt. Col. Akari Cortez led the ceremonies, including her unit raising the American flag and ringing a bell for those who died and served on 9/11. The Sandy Creek orchestra, band, and chorus also performed Patriotic songs as part of the proceedings.

Sandy Creek Principal Richard Smith, Tyrone City Councilman Billy Campbell, and Georgia Army National Guard Sgt. Brett Bentley shared messages of remembrance and gratitude for sacrifice.
