Sandy Creek track chips in at food drive

The track and field team at Sandy Creek High ran to the opportunity to help out. On Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, several Patriots participated in the Hosea Helps food drive.

The team was represented by Miles Thornton, Caleb Davis, Gabriella 'GiGi' Grissom, team manager Hannah C. Hoggs, and girls head coach Melissa McDonald. They joined in the annual community volunteer initiative, along with Senator Jon Ossoff and many Delta Air Lines employees, to distribute blankets and food to the homeless and less fortunate.

“I wanted the student-athletes to understand that Tyrone isn't the entire world, just a part of it, and they can make an impact on the world starting first off of Cleveland Avenue in Atlanta,” said Coach McDonald. “When I was a high school student-athlete, I would participate in the same type of community service, and I wanted to plant the same seed with my student-athletes. It is important for them to know that change begins with them, and any small gesture of kindness will never go unnoticed.”
