Shape museum exhibits expertise at Oak Grove

Shapes were on display at a unique exhibit at Oak Grove Elementary. The kindergarten class of Erin Barnes made their very own shape museum using items they brought from home.

Building off the lessons they learned in class on identifying shapes and naming their different attributes, students each brought in a solid object. The class sorted the objects, compared them, and talked about the different attributes of each, and they discussed how they knew the object was a particular shape.Students then went around the room and discussed with a partner what they noticed about the shapes they saw on the tables.

Barnes was thrilled to see her class dive into the museum project and learn how to identify shapes in the world around us.

“The kids loved the activity, and it was a great way to hit several math standards at once.”
