INTENT TO OPT OUT OF HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

The Fayette County School Board of Education intends to opt out of the statewide adjusted base year ad valorem homestead exemption for Fayette County Schools. All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this matter to be held at Fayette County Board of Education, Lafayette Education Center, 205 Lafayette Ave. Fayetteville, GA 30214 on January 27, 2025 at 6:30 PM. Times and places of additional public hearings on this matter are at Fayette County Board of Education Lafayette Education Center 205 Lafayette Ave. Fayetteville, GA 30214 on February 10, 2025 at 11:45 AM and February 24, 2025 at 6:30 PM.

Fayette County currently has in place a base year homestead tax exemption that was implemented in 2021. The statewide exemption would require county officials to calculate and track both exemptions each year and potentially be cumbersome and confusing. The current exemption provides on average $1,150 in reduced property taxes to over 21,800 homesteaded property owners.
