Student Attends Young Leaders of America Leadership Conference
A student from Bennett’s Mill Middle was among a select group of students from across the nation chosen to participate in a leadership opportunity that is by invitation only.Science teacher Mary Beth Grabhorn nominated Aleks Stec to participate in the weeklong 2017 Young Leaders of America Leadership Conference that was held in Clearwater, Florida this summer.
Students are chosen to participate based on their teacher’s nomination. A nominated student must have at least a 3.0 grade point average and display good conduct, have a great attitude, and possess leadership potential. The focus of the conference is to provide students the tools to recognize their leadership potential, no matter what circumstances they face in life. Students attend leadership training, and participate in team building exercises and goal-setting workshops. They also have the opportunity to hear from powerful motivational speakers, and take part in hands-on activities that reinforce what they have learned through the conference’s training and workshop sessions.
Grabhorn says she nominated Aleks based on his stellar academic performance, and attitude toward his educational journey.“He makes us proud inside and outside of the classroom. He is the type of student that I trust with making my future brighter,” says Grabhorn. The directors of the conference agreed with Grabhorn’s assessment of Aleks. In an email to Grabhorn following the conference, Jeffrey B. Sutliff, director of enrollment, wrote, “We just wanted to thank you for nominating Aleks for our conference this year. It was obvious as to why you chose him, and thank you for making it possible for us to meet such a smart and nice young man.”
