Fayette Schools Receive HealthierUS School Challenge Award

Thirteen Fayette County schools have earned the HealthierUS School Challenge (HUSSC) Award after being recognized by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for their continual efforts to support and improve the health of students.
 
The HealthierUS School Challenge is a voluntary national certification initiative by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to recognize schools that are creating healthier school environments through their promotion of nutritious meals, physical activity, and nutrition education. 
 
After an application process, four levels of superior performance were awarded– Silver, Bronze, Gold, and Gold Award of Distinction. Cleveland Elementary, Fayetteville Elementary, North Fayette Elementary, and Spring Hill Elementary earned silver awards. Bennett’s Mill Middle, Fayette County High, Flat Rock Middle, Huddleston Elementary, Inman Elementary, Kedron Elementary, Oak Grove Elementary, Robert J. Burch Elementary, and Sandy Creek High received a bronze award. 
 
Fayette’s HUSSC award-winning schools received a monetary prize ($500 for bronze and $1,000 for silver), an honorary plaque, an award banner, and national recognition on USDA website.
