The Fayette County Board of Education has signed a proclamation recognizing February 4-8 as National School Counseling Week, which is sponsored by the American School Counselor Association.Fayette County Public Schools Celebrate School Counselors

Board chairman Scott Hollowell read the proclamation at the January 14 board of education meeting in the presence of school counselors across the county.

National School Counseling Week provides recognition for school counselors who implement comprehensive school counseling programs that are a vital part of the educational process for all students as they meet the challenges of the 21st century. The theme for the week is “School Counselors: Providing Lessons for Life.”

Fayette’s 49 school counselors implement strategies and activities to support and maximize each student's ability to learn. They also help prepare students to make informed choices regarding post-secondary options to meet future career goals. In addition, the school counseling program provides the foundation for personal social growth as students progress through school and into adulthood. School counselors work with students through classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and on an individual basis.

Schools across the county have planned activities to honor their school counselors during the recognition week. The school system encourages its students, parents, staff and Fayette County community to take the time to say “thank you” to your child’s school counselor orto the school counselors in their school attendance areafor all their hard work and dedication to our students.
