Sandy Creek High SkillsUSA Students Earn Top National Awards

SkillsUSA chapter members at Sandy Creek High finished strong in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference with four students earning top placements in the nation.Sandy Creek High SkillsUSA Students Earn Top National Awards

Liberty Harris, Gianna Phann and Kayla Brooks took fifth place in the nation in Promotional Bulletin Board Design and Presentation. In his first national competition, Branden Goins snagged 25th place in T-Shirt Design and Presentation.

In addition to their awards, all four students earned the SkillsPoint Certification, which certifies that they performed at an industry proficient level and scored 80 percent or higher in their competition.

The students earned an invitation to the national competition after placing first in their events at the state level. They were among the approximately 6,500 best career and technical education students in the country to make it to the competition, and were the only national competitors representing Fayette County.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps high school and college students enrolled in career and technical education programs to excel by teaching employability skills such as communication, problem solving, and leadership in conjunction with their trade, technical and service occupation skills.
