New Teachers Learn about School System at Induction

Approximately 150 teachers new to Fayette County Public Schools kicked-off their first year with the school system at New Teacher Induction held July 23-26. “Portrait of a Teacher – Framing a Masterpiece” was the theme for the four-day event. The theme coincides with the launch of the school system’s “Portrait of a Graduate” that outlines the qualities and skills all Fayette County Public School System students should possess once they graduate.New Teachers Learn about School System at Induction

Fayette’s new teachers represent a mix of educators with varying degrees of experience from those who are starting their first year of teaching to veterans who have taught for over 20 years.

A breakfast for them and their principals jump-started the induction at Whitewater High School on Tuesday. Board of Education Chairman Scott Hollowell and Superintendent Dr. Joseph Barrow, along with 2019 Fayette County Teacher of the Year, Michael Wamsley from Robert J. Burch Elementary, officially welcomed the new educators.

Following breakfast, the teachers convened next door at Sara Harp Minter Elementary to learn about the high expectations of being a Fayette County Public School teacher, and participated in workshops covering topics they need to know to have a successful year.

The second and third days of New Teacher Induction, which also took place at the Sara Harp Minter Elementary, consisted of workshops covering topics such as technology tools, the importance of having a mentor, and classroom management. New teachers spent the fourth and final day of induction at their respective schools, getting oriented with the layout of the buildings and organizing their classrooms.
