Change is a fascinating thing, and Crabapple Lane Elementary 2nd graders explored reversible and irreversible changes in a fun way with a Matter Carnival.
Classes used carnival-type treats to show how adding heat or taking away heat creates a change in state of matter. Students explored popsicles changing from liquid to solid, and popcorn kernels had heat added to create popcorn. Solid chocolate became a liquid, then was molded and cooled to solidify. Other classes did shaved ice for snow cones, and one class did cotton candy.
