Crocodiles count on fun ways to learn

The Crocodiles are counting on fun new ways to learn. Cleveland Elementary kindergarteners working with Lauren Jackson used one-to-one correspondence while counting different objects around the classroom to sharpen their skills.

As part of an iReady pilot program called “Understand Counting,” students were asked to identify items in a picture and real life items in their classroom, and then count them. They had a discussion about why counting is important and how it is a part of everyday life.

Jackson hopes the lesson was a fun way to enforce a lifelong skill and teach them the relationship between numbers and quantities.

“My hope is that my students understand that counting tells how many, they are able to count using one-to-one correspondence, and understand the importance of keeping track of number count and objects counted.”
