Musical Books makes matches at Inman

Many matches were made in the media center at Inman Elementary with Musical Books.

For Musical Books, students in grades 2-5 were tasked with not judging a book strictly by its cover. Like musical chairs, the students walked inside the circle of chairs while the music played. Unlike musical chairs, when the music stopped, everyone sat down in a chair that had an age-appropriate book underneath.

The students gave that book one minute of their time. They looked at the genre of the book, the synopsis on the back, and started reading the first page to see if the author was able to grab their attention.

Media specialist Tracy Larson hopes the activity helped every student find a good fit or two.

“We discussed how this practice can be used in the library or the bookstore to help them find books that they will enjoy reading.”
