Secondary English Language Arts

  • The Fayette County Public Schools English Language Arts (ELA) Secondary Program is designed to hone students' reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing skills. In the ELA classroom, students see themselves and society as they read various texts. Through the analysis of texts, students will discover what it means to "read like a writer" and "write like a reader" as they delve into reading grade-level complex and diverse texts, notice writers' language choices, and value textual evidence to support their own writings and discussions. Through the continuous engagement of the ELA skills, students will embody the 7 characteristics of Fayette's Portrait of a Graduate as they become: lifelong learners, collaborators, effective communicators, future ready, creative problem solvers, resilient and productive citizens.
