Portrait of a Graduate Initiative

  • Portrait of a Graduate Initiative LogoFayette County Public Schools adopted a Portrait of a Graduate in spring 2019 after a year of extensive research and collaboration with stakeholders across the community.  Fayette is now one of several hundred districts across the country to have captured a community-owned picture of what our graduates need for success. The Portrait will serve as a “north star”  for the district, helping to align the strategic plan, school improvement plans and classroom practices to start with the end in mind (i.e., high school graduates).   

    In Fayette County,  the research process involved both qualitative and quantitative surveys, which included students,  parents, recent graduates and alumni, businesses and a diverse cross-section of community members.   The goal of the survey process was to discern what key characteristics, skills and attributes our graduates need for their success beyond high school.  

    A community design team helped compile the research with the following seven key characteristics for success emerging as the overarching themes:


    We are proud to say that Fayette County’s Portrait of a Graduate graphic design and characteristic icons were created by a 2018 graduate of Fayette County Public Schools.
