Math

  • At each grade, the curriculum encourages students to reason mathematically, to evaluate mathematical arguments both formally and informally, to use the language of mathematics to communicate ideas and information precisely, and to make connections between mathematical concepts and to other disciplines.

Parents and students will quickly observe how our mathematics classes are different from “typical math classrooms”. Eliminating repetition, the new Georgia Standards of Excellence address fewer topics at each grade level and topics are developed in depth through practical every day uses. Math classes will give students more opportunities to apply the understanding they are learning through performance tasks, group work, and classroom discussions. Our math classrooms are alive with math discussions and applications of skills. Students participate daily in classroom discussions that promote a deeper understanding of how math is relevant in our ever changing world. Students are constantly demonstrating how math “works” by applying their understanding to new ideas or concepts.
