In The News:

Georgia General Assembly, House Bill 251
New Transfer Law

Beginning with 2009-2010 school year, parents/guardians of students in a public elementary or secondary school in Georgia may elect to enroll their child in a school that is located within the school system in which the student resides other than the one to which the student has been assigned by the local board of education, if such school has classroom space available after the assigned students have been enrolled.  For Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program students, the other consideration is the availability of programs aligned with the students IEP.  The parent/guardian shall assume the responsibility and cost of transportation of the student to and from school. Not later than July 1, 2009, each local school system shall establish a universal, streamlined process. In accordance with HB 251, Fayette County Schools will provide information about the process by July 1, 2009.
