Overview

  • The interscholastic activity program in Fayette County Public Schools offers an opportunity for participation in a wide variety of student-selected activities, which we believe is a vital part of a student’s educational experiences. Such participation is a privilege that carries with it responsibilities to the school, to the activity, to other students, to the community and to the athletes themselves. These experiences contribute to the development of learning skills and emotional patterns that enable the student to achieve maximum benefit from his or her education.

We believe that interscholastic sports and fine arts activities promote citizenship and sportsmanship. They instill a sense of pride in community, teach lifelong lessons of teamwork and self-discipline and facilitate the physical and emotional development of our youth. Students who participate in activity programs tend to have higher grade-point averages, better attendance records, lower dropout rates and fewer discipline problems than students generally.

Participation in interscholastic activity programs in Fayette County Public Schools is entirely voluntary. The opportunity to participate in the program is extended to all eligible students who willing to assume the responsibilities congruent with the privilege.
