McIntosh, Starr’s Mill students win at state journalism awards
Student journalists from McIntosh High and Starr’s Mill High took part in the Georgia Scholastic Press Association Spring Awards and workshops at the University of Georgia.
McIntosh High’s The Trail earned an overall Superior rating, along with five All-Georgia Awards and nine Superior awards or their reporting, photography, and design.
The All-Georgia Award is the highest honor that GSPA gives, representing the best entries in the competition. The Trail won five: Rebekah Bushmire won for Social Media Breaking News; Lulu Vitulo won for Information Graphic; Luke Soule won for Critical Review; Savannah Hayes won for In-Depth News Story; and Bushmire and Vitulo won for Opposing Viewpoints.
The Trail won nine Superior awards: Ryan Levan, Feature Photograph; August Moss, Sports Photograph; Connor Lafontant, Sports Feature Story; Nyla Kerr, Health Reporting; Kerr, Commentary; Bushmire, News Photograph; Bushmire, Commentary; Soule, Feature Story; and Soule, Environment Reporting.
Starr’s Mill High’s The Prowler earned an overall Superior rating. Tori Poliak earned a Superior in Sports Photograph.
The Trail’s Adviser is Shanon Woolf. The Prowler’s Adviser is Justin Spencer.
