Members of New FCCLA Chapter Take Top Placements

Members of the brand new FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) chapter at Sandy Creek High are not wasting any time in letting fellow competitors know that they are top contenders in the organization’s skill demonstration events.Members of New FCCLA Chapter Take Top Placements

Three chapter members took top placements in their first Region 4 competition where they went up against seasoned chapters from Clayton County Public Schools, Atlanta Public Schools, and Fulton County Public Schools. The winning students are Taylor Breeding, 10th grade, second place in Impromptu Speaking; and Maya Shropshire, 12th grade, and Josephine Martins, ninth grade, third and fourth place, respectively, in Speak Out for FCCLA.

The skill demonstration events provide opportunities for members to demonstrate college and career ready skills in Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations.

Impromptu speaking recognizes participants for their ability to address a topic relating to FCCLA and Family and Consumer Sciences without prior preparation. The ability to express one's thoughts in an impromptu situation while maintaining poise, self-confidence, logical organization of point, and conversational speaking are important assets in family, career and community situations.

Speak Out for FCCLA recognizes members for their ability to utilize marketing and public speaking skills to promote Family and Consumer Sciences and FCCLA membership through participation in the FCCLA national program Power of One unit, "Speak Out for FCCLA".

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools. Everyone is part of a family, and FCCLA is the only national career and technical student organization with the family as its central focus.  Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills necessary for life through character development, critical and creative thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
