Fayette County High Evacuated

Dear Parents/Guardian:

A gas pipeline was punctured around 11:30 a.m. today as part of the construction project at Fayette County High School resulting in the evacuation of the entire campus.

All students are safe and were evacuated to nearby airconditioned facilities. Students were relocated to the LaFayette Educational Center (LEC), across from the school, and the Center of Innovation (COI), behind the school. Lunches are being boxed and transported to the students. Bottled water is available to them at both sites.

Students will be dismissed at the regular time today; students who drove to school will be able to retrieve their vehicles to drive home at dismissal time if their car is parked in the student parking lot. However, work-based learning and dual enrollment students will not be able to retrieve their vehicles until after 7 p.m. today due to the location of the leak.

Please note that some students may not have their personal belongings with them such as bookbags and Chromebooks. They will be able to retrieve those items tomorrow when school reopens. We expect the gas pipeline to be repaired this afternoon so that school can resume at the normal start time in the morning.

Thank you for your support of Fayette County High School.

Sincerely,

Fayette County Public Schools
