Sandy Creek, Alofe dominate at state track and field
Fayette athletes filled the podium at the GHSA Track & Field State Championships, with every school boasting top five finishers. The big winners were Sandy Creek with a sweep and Starr’s Mill’s Tito Alofe dominating his classification.
At the Class 3A championships in Albany, the Patriots reigned supreme with both teams winning the overall team state championship.
The Lady Patriots nearly doubled the point total of the runner-up team.
In both the 100 and 200 meter dash, Bobbi Olive won with teammate Ryan Lewis 2nd. Isis Symone Grant won the 400 meter dash and the 800 meter run. Ryan Lewis won the triple jump. Ariyana Johnson placed 2nd in the discus. Kaitlin Hunter placed 5th in the 100 meter hurdles. Sky White placed 4th in the long jump.
The team of Malia Watts, Ryan Lewis, Isis Symone Grant, and Bobbi Olive won the 4x100 meter relay. The team of Bobbi Olive, Noelle Boyd, Empress Malone, and Isis Symone Grant placed 2nd in the 4x400.
The Sandy Creek boys ran away from the competition.
Dalen Penson won the triple jump, with Blake Davis in 3rd. Geimere Latimer placed 4th in the 400 meter dash. Kyshon Kenney placed 2nd in the 300 meter hurdles. In the 110 meter hurdles, Dalen Penson placed 2nd with Gandor Bah in 4th. In the high jump, John Hopson placed 2nd with Blake Davis in 3rd.
The team of Braylin Blackburn, Geimere Latimer, Zavion Green, and Kyshon Kenney placed 2nd in the 4x400 relay. The team of Christopher Wyckoff, Chandler Wyckoff, Jonathan Adams, and Jordan McDaniel placed 4th in the 4x800 relay.
The Class 4A championships were also held in Albany, with Starr’s Mill, Fayette County, and Whitewater competing.
The Starr’s Mill boys finished 2nd overall. Tito Alofe won the high jump and the triple jump and finished 2nd in the long jump. Alofe was the high point total champion for all 4A boys competitors. Josh Phifer won the discus. In the shot put, Jared Moore placed 2nd with Greigh Joseph in 3rd. Ethan Aguilera-Morton placed 5th in the 800 meter run. The team of Ethan Aguilera-Morton, Denver Oates, Bankson Roach, and Cannon McFall placed 2nd in the 4x800 meter relay.
The Lady Panthers placed 9th overall. Mia Brown placed 4th in the 400 meter dash. Kendra Ivaska placed 2nd in the 800 meter run. The team of Mia Brown, Bella Gorman, Kendra Ivaska, and Kali McQuade placed 4th in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Ana Miller, Kendra Ivaska, Gabriella Roach, and Mia Haefner placed 5th in the 4x800 meter relay.
The Fayette County boys finished 5th overall. Justin Warner won the 800 meter run. The team of Julian Hall, Kamran Kilpatrick, Eric Hence, and Trennedy Whatley placed 4th in the 4x100 meter relay. The team of Justin Warner, Michael Keniye, Justice Northern, and Trennedy Whatley placed 2nd in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Allen Sulton, Zakhari Rivers, Shannon Sue, and Justin Warner placed 4th in the 4x800 meter relay.
The Lady Tigers placed 10th overall. Ariel Johnson placed 5th in the 100 meter hurdles. Angel Johnson placed 3rd in the triple jump. Onoyeme Egure placed 4th in the shot put.
The Whitewater boys placed 4th overall. Gabriel Best placed 3rd in both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter run. Braeden Ofosu-Kwarteng placed 4th in the 400 meter dash and 4th in the long jump. Ivan Agyeman placed 5th in the shot put. The team of Ademola Adewusi, Angel Urugutia, Joe Kennedy, and Braeden Ofosu-Kwarteng placed 4th int he 4x400 meter relay.
The Lady Wildcats finished 25th overall. Taylor Tarpley placed 5th in the 1600 meter run.
At the Class 5A championships in Columbus, the McIntosh Lady Chiefs finished 14th overall. Oluchi Ugbajah won the high jump, and the team of Madeline Abbot, Millie Quick, Katerina Soroka, and Noelle Sullivan placed 2nd in the 4x800.
