Braves meet Hawaii park ranger

The wonders of technology made the world a bit smaller as Oak Grove Elementary students met virtually with a park ranger from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.

Students in Heather Price’s 3rd grade enrichment class do a year-long research project study on national parks. One of the students had selected Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, and they wrote a letter to the park. They received a response from Ranger Glen, as well as pictures and brochures. In his response letter, Ranger Glen shared about the opportunity to set up a virtual meeting, and Price was sure to set it up.

Ranger Glen taught the students about the different types of volcanoes, why volcanoes form, and how different plant and animal life have come to exist on Hawaii, as well as what the park works hard to protect and preserve.

“It was the next best thing to taking a field trip to Hawaii,” said Price. “It was fabulous!”
