Flat Rock studies soil

The Eagles don’t mind getting their hands dirty for a good lesson. Flat Rock Middle partnered with the Georgia Water and Soil Conservation Commission through a unit called "Soil Your Undies."

Students buried cotton underpants around the school and learned about soil properties, the water and rock cycles, invertebrates, erosion, and careers in conservation. The students dug up the undies 7 weeks later and culminated their unit with an exploration in decomposition and soil health.

Josh Jackwood with the GSWCC visited with students to teach them about soil and erosion.
